CAREER PATHWAYS / DATA CENTER SERIES

Start with a real practice session.

Learn the reasoning behind a data-center repair. Work through six foundation lessons, diagnose a simulated memory fault, and export a record of your practice.

Free practice is open. No payment or account is required. The full paid programs below remain in development.

START PRACTISING

Learn a concept. Apply it. Keep your evidence.

Six foundation lessons and a server-repair workbench are available now as free practice. These are part of the developing program; paid enrollment remains closed.

01 / Build the foundations

Learn hardware, rack layout, diagnosis and verification. Resume your answers in this browser or export and restore a study record.

02 / Work the repair

Use the existing 3D workbench to diagnose and correct a simulated memory fault, then verify the resulting equipment state.

03 / Help shape the program

Tell us your target role and what you need to practise. This opens an email draft; send it to request pilot information.

PLANNED PAID PROGRAMS

Choose the direction you want to grow.

Planned one-time prices: $50, $75 and $115. Lead includes Technician. Operations Manager includes both. These are self-study programs, not paid job placement, professional certification or authorization to service live equipment.

TECHNICIAN$50

Foundations & Field Practice

12 technician modules

Start from the basics: safety, rack measurement, cable routes, fiber and optics, inspection and testing, supervised-splicing preparation, server installation, Linux/BMC evidence, break/fix, AI infrastructure and maintenance.

Produce a rack elevation, cable matrix, loss-test analysis, incident record and honest entry-level portfolio.

30-day foundational study plan

New edition: not yet available for purchase.

TECHNICAL LEAD$75

Technician + Team Execution

All Technician content + 6 lead modules

Add deployment-wave planning, realistic labor estimates, acceptance criteria, quality control, methods of procedure, rollback, incident coordination, coaching and competency-based delegation.

Produce a four-rack deployment packet, reviewed change plan, quality log and team handoff.

Suggested sequence: 60 days of study

New edition: not yet available for purchase.

OPERATIONS MANAGER$115

Complete Career Pathway

All Technician and Lead content + 6 management modules

Add white-space-to-service readiness, cross-team responsibilities, 24/7 staffing, service metrics, power/cooling capacity interfaces, spares, vendor and cost controls, hiring scorecards and operational improvement.

Produce an operating-readiness review, staffing model, capacity register and 90-day operations plan.

Suggested sequence: 90 days of study

New edition: not yet available for purchase.

The 30/60/90-day sequence estimates study time, not time to employment or promotion. Beginners need supervised physical practice; lead and manager jobs depend on relevant real experience. No automatic upgrade credit is currently configured.

PLANNED CURRICULUM

What the full programs are being built to cover.

The planned learning loop for each future module is: lesson, official demonstration or reference, worked example, guided exercise, independent challenge, evidence, answer criteria and a seven-day recall check.

CURRENT EQUIPMENT, MODEL-SPECIFIC RULES

Understand the AI service, not just the rack.

Study installed H100/H200 fleets, B200 and GB200/GB300 documentation, management and data fabrics, GPU health, power/cooling interfaces, platform provisioning and service acceptance. Emerging Vera Rubin material is awareness reading, not a substitute for an approved service manual. Licensed and OEM-authorized work remains with qualified personnel.

SAMPLE: READ → CALCULATE → DECIDE

Would you accept this fiber link?

This original training scenario uses supplied synthetic limits. They are not universal fiber standards. Write your answer before opening the worked solution.

The work order

Four connections are allocated 0.40 dB each. Two splices are allocated 0.10 dB each. Fiber length is 0.20 km at an allocated 0.40 dB/km. The training specification also requires 0.30 dB of remaining margin. Measured loss is 1.70 dB.

Your task: calculate the component budget, remaining margin, pass/hold decision and the evidence needed after corrective work.

Reveal the worked solution

Component budget = (4 × 0.40) + (2 × 0.10) + (0.20 × 0.40) = 1.88 dB. Remaining margin = 1.88 − 1.70 = 0.18 dB. The link is below the component limit but fails the separate 0.30 dB margin requirement. Hold acceptance, document the applicable criteria, investigate under the approved procedure and retest. At 1.50 dB measured loss, margin would be 0.38 dB and both exercise criteria would pass.

Save a test record with endpoint IDs, wavelength/direction, test method, reference, result, limit, decision and corrective owner. Do not claim that an OTDR event estimate or a splicer display independently certifies the whole channel.

Watch the EXFO inspection demonstration

Technician example

Plan a 42U rack with 20U occupied. There are 22U unassigned, but that does not prove spare power, cooling, weight or rail capacity. Produce the elevation and mark unknown approvals as holds.

Lead example

Four people × eight hours is 32 gross labor-hours. After supplied allowances, 24 hours remain. A plan consuming all 24 has no defect contingency. Reforecast instead of skipping acceptance.

Manager example

Two continuously staffed posts need 336 hours weekly. At 32 usable coverage hours per person, 11 people are the theoretical minimum. That is not yet a safe, skills-aware, HR-reviewed roster.

THE FIRST MONTH

A plan with outputs, not just hours watched.

Begin with approximately 2–3 hours a day and adjust to your starting point. This is a proposed study schedule for the future paid program, not a list of lessons currently delivered. Timing has not yet been validated with a beginner pilot.

Days 1–10

Safety, rack measurement, route planning, strand allocation, optic compatibility and inspection. Output: a coherent rack and cable plan.

Days 11–20

Loss tests, splice planning, server components, OEM workflows, Linux/BMC evidence and controlled break/fix. Output: test and incident records.

Days 21–30

AI service paths, maintenance, decommissioning, capstone and honest interview practice. Planned output: a practice portfolio and a real-experience gap plan. Independent assessment is not currently included.

Lead adds a suggested 30-day study block; Manager adds another. A course cannot replace the years of professional experience requested by many leadership roles. Physical splicing, energized electrical work, heavy equipment and liquid-cooling service require appropriate training, equipment, supervision and authorization.
